Just a few days ago Konami surprised us with PC re-releases of several Metal Gear, Castlevania, and Contra games. Today, out of the blue, Silent Hill 4: The Room is also joining Konami’s PC re-release lineup. You can easily buy Silent Hill 4 PC on GOG starting today for $9.99. The PC port supports XInput and “most common” DirectInput controllers, although the store page noted that the right stick may not be possible to bind.
Judging from user reviews on GOG and people’s reactions on Twitter, it seems Silent Hill 4 PC port runs pretty well on most rigs, even if it’s not a brand new port. That’s unlike the Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance re-release that’s based on the 2003 version, which is a pleasant surprise. The old port introduced game-breaking bugs, worse sound effects than console versions, clunky menus, and doesn’t support triggers on controllers and Konami sold it again as-is. Thankfully, fans have made an unofficial patch to fix most of them.
Silent Hill 4 was first released in 2004 for PS2, Xbox, and PC. The game starts off with the main character, Henry Townshend, locked in his apartment for five days straight and having recurring nightmares. Not long after, a hole appears in his bathroom and strange phenomena begin to unfold around him and other residents. This is also the last title made by the original Team Silent.
