Singer and actor Meat Loaf has died at the age of 74. The musician’s death was announced on his Facebook page.
Meat Loaf’s long-time agent Michael Greene told Deadline that Meat Loaf died Thursday night with his wife Deborah, daughters Pearl and Amanda, and close friends by his side. A cause of death has not been released.
Meat Loaf’s family released a statement saying, “We know how much he meant to so many of you, and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief in losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man. From his heart to your souls… don’t ever stop rocking!”
While the cause of his death has not been released, Meat Loaf had many health scares in his career, especially in recent years. In 2011, the singer fainted on stage while performing in Pittsburgh, and in 2016 he collapsed during a concert in Canada.
Meat Loaf, whose real name was Marvin Lee Aday, was born in Dallas. His famous stage name was based on a nickname his football coach gave him because of his weight. His 1977 album Bat Out of Hell is one of the ten best-selling albums of all time, featuring hits like “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad” and “Paradise By the Dashboard Light,” the latter of which is probably his most recognizable song. Although “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)” is also highly recognizable.
While primarily known for his music, Meat Loaf had many famous acting credits to his name. Some of his best-known roles include Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Robert “Bob” Paulson in Fight Club, and “Tiny,” the bouncer in Wayne’s World.
