It’s been a long time since we’ve been treated to a new Skateboarding game. Skate 3 was released back in 2010 whereas Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 came out in 2015, but that doesn’t really count as the game was just a terrible, terrible way for Activision to squeeze one last game out of their license.

Thankfully, fans of the board won’t have too long to wait as it has today been announced that Skater XL will make its way to the will on July 7th. We’ve known for a while that Skater XL would release in July, however, now the date is official and it’s right at the start of the month.

Said to deliver unparalleled access to skateboarding culture, Skater XL will release on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC as a digital download with the PlayStation and Xbox versions also getting a physical release.

I’ve been dying to play a new Skating game for a long time and I absolutely cannot wait to see how it plays. Being unable to even ollie by myself I find these sorts of games to be the next best thing. Take a look at the trailer below and see what you think:

This particular trailer doesn’t give too much away regarding Skater XL’s gameplay as it’s designed to show off the host of real-life brands that are available in-game. Brands such as Etnies, Enjoi, Vans, Element, and Dickies are all present and accounted for as well as a whole host of others.

Skaters available to play as include Tiago Lemos, Evan Smith, Tom Asta, and Brandon Westgate with complete physics-based gameplay offering total freedom of control and expression. At least that’s what the press release says. The proof is in the pudding, trailer means nothing compared to an actual hands-on.

With a host of tournaments and personal highlights reels, it really sounds like Skater XL will be a game looking to create a community, one that I’ll be part of from day one. I just hope it’s good and not another Tony Hawk’s 5.
