The toys-to-life segment of the gaming industry has been growing bigger and bigger with seemingly a new competitor coming each year. That made it all the more interesting when we learned during E3 2015 that hybrid Skylanders amiibo were coming, which are now finally getting a much awaited standalone release.

As announced during Nintendo’s Digital Event, Nintendo and Activision teamed up to bring us special figures that some donned Skymiibo, with Donkey Kong and Bowser as the lucky representatives.

These figures were created with the same style of Skylanders, but using these two Nintendo characters, along with their own special vehicles that played a big part in Skylanders SuperChargers.

The only disappointment for many was that these were only available as part of the Starter Packs for Nintendo Wii U, Wii, and 3DS, with no standalone releases. Luckily, that is going to be no longer the case as we are getting standalone releases for both Turbo Charge Donkey Kong and Hammer Slam Bowser.

These will each be coming in their own dual packs, which come with both the Skymiibo themselves and their respective vehicles. These dual packs will retail for $24.99 and are set to be released on January 9 at GameStop during their annual Skylanders Day, with some already appearing in some Walmart stores as well.
