A recent PlayStation commercial has reinforced rumors surrounding a potential Sly Cooper 5. During this week’s PlayStation Showcase, an ad featuring a couple of different franchises was played. A couple of said callbacks were direct references to games that feature on the PS5 already. However, the internet didn’t take too long to figure out some of the more carefully hidden easter eggs that showed up in the advertisement. It just so happens that one of the said surprises was the Sly Cooper logo. The little cameo was all too easy to miss, it appeared on screen for less than a second. For fans of the series, however, the logo is unmistakably the Sly Cooper one.

Naturally, there’s a heavy chance that Sony just slotted in the easter egg for no particular reason. After all, the series was particularly iconic for PlayStation consoles during the 2000s. We haven’t heard much regarding Sly Cooper since the last installment on PS3, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, so why would Sony decide to toss the logo about for no reason?

Sly Cooper 5 Rumors: Are Past Successes Justifying Them?

Fans can indulge in positive speculation for the time being, especially since there have already been rumors regarding a sequel. In recent weeks, a 4chan post had hinted towards Sly Cooper making a comeback sometime soon. Anything posted on 4chan should be taken with a grain of salt; especially considering said post had been deleted soon after. Nick Baker, an industry insider, had then shared on Reddit that there was indeed a Sly Cooper title in the works… But that it probably isn’t going to be worked on by Sucker Punch.

Seeing Sly Cooper again on the PS5 would make a lot of sense. Sony is well aware that rebooting old franchises is a winning strategy. They hold exclusive titles that are so dear to many fans. Previous, successful revivals of series only serve in showing the way forward: God of War and Ratchet and Clank are prime examples.

For the sake of the series’ fans, we can only keep our fingers crossed. Even if rumors are true, the possibility of Sly Cooper 5 releasing would probably only be realistic for 2023 and beyond.
