Exciting news for Smallville fans – Clark Kent himself, Tom Welling, is guest-starring in the CW’s upcoming Crisis on Infinite Earths event.
The rumors have been prevalent for months. Many of these have been debunked, with co-star Michael Rosenbaum shooting down past claims through Twitter. However, it appears this time around, Tom Welling is definitely returning for Crisis.
First reported in Deadline, Arrow co-producer and creator Marc Guggenheim emphasized the influence of Smallville on the Arrowverse:
Arrow actor Stephen Amell echoed these sentiments, saying on Twitter:
There’d be no crossover without Tom Welling. So Tom Welling is in the crossover. pic.twitter.com/9HqffyYUDh

In the past, Tom Welling has expressed interest in reprising the role, through animation or a movie. As expected, details are light on the role Smallville Clark Kent will play in the five-episode Crisis on Infinite Earths. All that is known is that, in Clark’s world, it’s been ten years since the series finale.
Whether Welling actually wears the iconic red cape is currently unknown. While Clark from Smallville did put on the costume in the series finale, he was only depicted as a CG model. He was never physically depicted in the costume.
However, even if not depicted physically on Clark, the suit was shown in various points in Smallville. The show actually used the suit from 2006’s Superman Returns in these scenes.
Speaking of Returns, the star of said movie Brandon Routh is also reprising his super-role in Crisis. Unlike Welling, however, he won’t be reprising the role from ‘his’ universe. Instead, he’ll play the Superman from the 1996 Kingdom Come miniseries.
