Atlus has surprised Shin Megami Tensei fans today with a new trailer for the upcoming Strange Journey remake for 3DS. The video shows a completely different version of the game, transformed into a side-scrolling action title popularly known as Metroidvania. In this case, the characters of Jack Frost and Jack O’Lantern explore every stage of the Schwarzwelt, facing multiple enemies and difficult jumps. Sadly, as the video makes clear near the end, it’s all a fake version of the game, just showcase to promote the real Strange Journey Redux. The only issue here is that, of course, now we really want a Metroidvania Shin Megami Tensei!

In SMT: Strange Journey Redux (known as Deep Strange Journey in Japan) players take control of a special task force sent to Antartica to investigate a distortion known as the Schwarzwelt. While exploring the place, the agents realize that the distortion has open a gate to multiple demonic creatures from another dimension to crossover to our world. If you are a fan of the series, you will have correctly guessed that players will be able to control those creatures in order to use their special abilities in battle.

This new version of the game for 3DS adds completely revamped graphics, new animated scenes, a brand new character, and a full voice recording of all the dialogues. The company already launche a lengthy trailer with gameplay a few months ago.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux launches for 3DS on October 26 in Japan, and early 2018 in North America and Europe. Watch the new trailer below.
