If there is one Snapchat feature that helps with user retention, it has to be Snapstreak. Designed as a strategic incentive for users to keep returning and using the platform, maintaining Snapstreaks is often considered a big deal among most Snapchat users. As a result, it is truly an unfortunate moment when someone loses their Snapstreak on instances like server outages or app glitches. If you are someone who recently lost your streak with your close friend or significant other, here’s what you can do to restore your Snapstreak in Snapchat.

What is Snapchat Streak?

Snapchat Streak, popularly known as Snapstreaks, is a representation of frequent communication with a Snapchat user. A Snapstreak starts when you and your friend start sending snaps to each other at least once in 24 hours for over 3 consecutive days. To clarify, text conversations within the Snapchat app won’t count towards your Snapstreaks. You would lose your Snapstreak with Snapchat friends or loved ones if you don’t share a photo or video with them within a 24-hour window.

You will see a fire emoji (🔥) next to their name in the chat list when the streak begins. When you keep sending Snaps to each other on the daily, a number appears alongside the fire emoji. It denotes the Snapstreak, the number of days you have been exchanging Snaps with each other. For instance, the number 58 in the image above shows that the person has been sending Snaps to the recipient for almost 2 months.

  1. Open Snapchat and tap on your Bitmoji (or profile icon) at the top-left corner. When your profile opens, press the Settings icon from the top-right corner of the screen.

  2. Scroll down until you find the “Support” section and select “I Need Help”. You will now be taken to Snapchat’s support page. Tap “Snapstreaks” to view Snapstreaks-related support topics.

  3. Look for the question “What if my Snapstreak has gone away but I know we’ve sent a Snap (not Chat) back and forth within the 24-hour window?” and click on the “Let us know” hyperlink. Under the “Contact Us” section on the next page, you need to select the “I lost my Snapstreak” option on the Snapchat support page.

  4. You will now see a form urging you to fill in details such as username, email, phone number, your device, friend’s username, and more. Fill in the relevant details and tap “Send” to submit the request. It is worth pointing out that you can use just one friend’s username when raising the request. If you lost Snapstreak with multiple users, you have to submit separate requests to Snapchat.

Q. Is Snapchat streak truly limited to 24 hours?

Q. What does the hourglass emoji (⏳) mean on Snapchat?

Yeah, if you receive a snap reading “Streak on” or “Streak alive” from a friend or loved one, you should always reply with a snap to keep the Snapstreak going. If you have already sent a snap, ignore the message as they are doing their part to keep the streak alive. If not, you can either reply with a picture or a video to not lose the Snapchat streak.
