One certainly can’t accuse Nintendo of being unoriginal, as Snipperclips is not quite like anything we’ve seen before.
Making its debut during the Nintendo Treehouse livestream dedicated to the Nintendo Switch and its upcoming launch and lineup, Snipperclips: Cut it Out, Together! is positioned as a co-op puzzle game with a focus on literally cutting up your partner’s body to solve puzzles in an arts-and-crafts inspired setting.
It’s definitely not the type of game you would expect on the PS4 or Xbox One, but somehow feels right at home on a Nintendo console like the Switch. Each person holds a Joy-Con controller as they walk in front of each other and use a pair of invisible scissors to “snip” a piece of their partner’s body off, in order to make certain shapes that either match up with an outline on the screen or can be used for other purposes, like dunking a basketball.
Like I said, it’s very strange and yet very Nintendo. Luckily, if someone “snips” too much, you can reform your shape at the press of a button and try again. In the video above, you can tell that sometimes it’s a lot tougher than it sounds, particularly in some of the puzzles that pop up later in the game.
You can always move on from a difficult puzzle and come back to it later, and Nintendo says there will be multiple solutions to each puzzle, so you can feel free to experiment.
Snipperclips: Cut it Out, Together! supports two-player or four-player co-op, but doesn’t seem to have a single-player function as of yet. It’s also currently unknown if Snipperclips will feature online multiplayer, which Nintendo revealed will be a paid service for the Switch.
Snipperclips: Cut it Out, Together! is set for a March release. The Nintendo Switch will be released on March 3rd.
