Dave Chappelle’s hosting gig on Saturday Night Live is set to go on but could be without a full complement of staff. This is because some SNL staff writers could boycott the weekend show because of the comedian’s past transphobic and homophobic jokes. Find out the staff writers’ reason for boycotting Dave’s show below.

Why Are SNL Staff Writers Boycotting Dave Chappelle’s Hosting Gig?

Insiders reveal that the SNL writers are unhappy Dave was chosen to helm SNL. Therefore, they decided to sit out the episode he would host. A source told Page Six:

Despite news of SNL staff writers boycotting Dave Chappelle’s hosting gig, the comedian’s rep said nothing suggested there would be a boycott.

Dave’s SNL Hosting History

This is not the first time Dave will helm an SNL show. He last hosted the show in 2020 before Netflix released his 2021 special, Closer. That development angered some of the streaming network’s viewers as Dave targeted the transgender community with some of his jokes. Such situations could have moved the SNL staff writers into sitting out of the show.

However, Dave’s rep maintains that the SNL staff writers’ boycott is non-existent. According to the comedian’s rep, the room was full of writers who pitched ideas and seemed excited about the show. The representative added that Dave looks forward to having some fun.

One SNL Writer Cries Out

Following the announcement of Dave Chappelle’s hosting gig on SNL, slated for November 12, one of the show’s writers, Celeste Yim, took to Instagram Stories. In their post, they said they are trans and non-binary and use they/them pronouns. Celeste added that transphobia is murder and should be condemned.

It remains unclear if Celeste is one of the SNL staff writers reportedly boycotting Dave Chappelle’s hosting gig. Also, no one is certain they were referring to Dave in their post. Whatever the case, one hopes the issue gets resolved quickly and all parties involved are happy.
