So You Think You Can Dance is returning! After a three-year hiatus, SYTYCD is coming back for its landmark 17th season. The reality competition showcases aspiring talent from across the country. Contestants perform various dance styles to be America’s next dance superstar. Styles from hip-hop to foxtrot have been sampled in the past. No style is off-limits.

The return announcement comes after production on the series ceased. The ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic delayed So You Think You Can Dance’s typical airing schedule. Executive producer and talent judge Nigel Lythgoe confirmed the news on Twitter. Once again, dancers from around the country have a platform to showcase their skills.

So You Think You Can Dance Is Finally Returning

According to Lythgoe, So You Think You Can Dance is making its grand return this summer. With a summer air date, the series is likely beginning production soon for the new season. There’s no word as of yet regarding which judges are returning for Season 17. Lythgoe’s likely to return because of his producer status on the series. Since the shows had a rotating set of judges in recent seasons, anyone else would be pure speculation.

The series has produced a wide range of global superstars. Some alum from the show includes Ellen Show DJ Twitch and multiple pros on Dancing With The Stars. In addition to the celebrity factor, the show is also beloved by the Emmys. SYTYCD has taken home countless awards, including Best Reality-Competition Program and Outstanding Costumes.

Hold on to your dancing shows, though, because sadly for fans, the official return date for the series is not yet known. For now, “this summer” is as close as anyone’s able to get to the confirmed date. However, Lythgoe did confirm that the show will once again return to its longtime home on Fox.
