The original Doom (1993) started a gaming trend by being played in rather unusual places like a lego brick or even an old rotary phone. This time, the classic game was found installed in a Mcdonald’s self-service kiosk. It was unclear who installed the original Doom on the kiosk, but it was shared by the official Doom Twitter account and became popular among players quickly.

In addition, we don’t know how the game is controlled at a McDonald’s kiosk. Since there is no keyboard/mouse or gamepad input in the kiosk, we can assume that the credit card number pad is a controller. What makes Doom popular for developers is that the game’s code is available on the internet. This allows developers to create playable versions of Doom on different machines. Doom fans competed to create various ways they could play the game. Someone installed Doom on a graphing calculator powered by potatoes, another game developer created a playable Doom GIF, and another took the game to a pregnancy test.

The fact that the players showed such interest in Doom also touched its famous creator, John Romero. The developer announced an update to the game, which specific leveled players could donate to download. As a show of support to the people of Ukraine, the new DOOM II level is 5 Euros and is now available on John Romero’s website.
