Something is Killing the Children is getting a film adaptation. A Netflix film adaptation, that is. The popular comic has been claimed by two veterans of the horror genre. Trevor Macy and Mike Flanagan are teaming up to give SIKTC a Netflix treatment, and the internet is already expecting good things.
Trevor Macy and Mike Flanagan: A Quick Synopsis
For those who aren’t familiar with the horror works of Trevor Macy and Mike Flanagan, here is a quick summary of their work. Mike Flanagan is known for creating and directing the Netflix horror series The Haunting of Hill House. The series was concluded and renewed for a second season, but with a different story based on Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw called The Haunting of Bly Manor. It had an American Horror Story vibe by keeping the same cast and changing up the story. Flanagan’s claim to fame, however, was with the 2013 film, Oculus. He also has adopted two Stephen King stories into films. Gerald’s Game (2017) and Doctor Sleep (2019). Trevor Macy has been Flanagan’s go-to producer for all of these projects. It is believed, however, that Macy shall be the showrunner and not Flanagan.
Something is Killing the Children (SIKTC)!
The comic series, Something is Killing the Children, lovingly referred to by fans as SIKTC, was initially set to only be a few issues long. It takes place in the town of Archer’s Peak. Children in said town start to go missing and are believed to be dinner for some monstrous entities. None of the town’s adult residents seem to believe the plight of the youngsters and the only one willing to listen is a mysterious lady stranger with a great deal of cryptic intrigue. Her name is Erica Slaughter and she has seen things…literally. She can actually see the creatures and knows how to kill them…efficiently.
The series was such a huge success in its first 18 months, that it is now an ongoing series. Selling 1.2 million copies in your first 18 months is clearly a good thing. The film is only in its first stages of production. Due to its popularity, and the success of both the comic series and the filmmakers involved, Netflix will be unlikely to backtrack on this project. In the meantime, good things are to be expected. We cannot wait for the Something is Killing the Children film adaptation.
