Sonic fans, the time has finally come. Yesterday was the official release date of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. This comes after months of anticipation and a fair amount of hype. The Blue Blur has been racing around doing press for a while now. And now, he finally hits the big screen. Cast and crew alike have promised that it will be bigger and better than before. So far, it looks like all that advertising has paid off. Though it only just premiered yesterday, Sonic 2 is expected to have a better debut weekend than the first movie, potentially doubling revenue to $65 million.

Sonic 2 Is Action-Packed, In A Good Way

From everything we’ve seen in the trailers, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has a lot going on. Both Tails and Knuckles are introduced in this movie, bringing some spice and diversity to the cast. We’ve also got our first Emerald-focused plot, a big step for the franchise. And to top it off, Robotnik has become more dastardly than ever, as opposed to the lordly tech giant from the first movie. Everything points to improvements, which may be why the Sonic 2 movie has such good revenue so far. Get out and see it if you can. Of course, if theaters aren’t your thing just yet, there are options for that to come.

Where Are These Powered Creatures Headed Next?

Since the Sonic 2 movie has been doing well since its debut, it seems evident that the series will continue. There has already been a third movie announced, along with a Knuckles spin-off. However, we may be missing our key villain. Jim Carrey announced his retirement last week. Without Eggman to cause conflict and be thwarted by Sonic and friends, there’s not much to work with. That said, it seems the producers are confident that Carrey could return for Robotnik in the threequel’s future. There are a lot more awesome concepts to adapt at hand, so here’s hoping they’re right.
