Today is a pretty exciting day for Sonic fans, thanks to the Sonic Central live stream. It didn’t just showcase news on the upcoming cartoon projects and Sonic’s 30th-anniversary merchandise, but of course, game updates as well, including a teaser for a 2022 Sonic title and Sonic Colors Ultimate remaster for current-gen consoles. In case you missed out on the show, let’s recap everything SEGA revealed to us today below.

Sonic Games and Crossover Announcements

New Sonic Game and Re-releases

  • Sonic Colors remaster launches on September 7, 2021, for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Epic Games Store. Pre-order bonus includes Baby Sonic keychain, while Digital Deluxe edition will be packed with additional movie-themed in-game items. Read more about the details in our Sonic Colors Ultimate article.
  • SEGA will also be releasing a new retro compilation titled Sonic Origins, releasing next year. It includes Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, and Sonic CD. Unfortunately, that’s all they’ve revealed for now, but more info is coming soon later this year.
  • There’s also a teaser for a brand new Sonic title, showing the blue hedgehog running in the middle of a forest and making a mysterious pattern. It’s planned to be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.

Crossovers in Other Games

  • Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games The Official Video Game is getting a Sonic costume that your character can wear. The game is releasing on June 22.
  • Two Point Hospital gets a bunch of Sonic-themed hospital decors as well as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy outfits for your staff. The free Sonic Pack DLC will be available on July 30.
  • You can play Sonic the Fighters at in-game SEGA arcades in Lost Judgment. The Yakuza spinoff is releasing on September 24.
  • A Minecraft crossover is teased.
  • SEGA also promises that there will be more future collaborations throughout the year.

Mobile Games Events

  • Sonic Dash: A pirate-themed event is adding Captain Shadow and Pirate Sonic skins to the mobile runner game. There are other in-game bonuses you can unlock by grabbing Sonic’s 30th anniversary-themed items on the track as well.
  • Sonic Forces: Super Sonic is coming to the game, and the Party Match limited-time event will let you compete in private matches with your friends.
  • Both games are getting a new Werehog character this Halloween.
  • Sonic Racing (Apple Arcade): Classic Sonic, three new tracks, and new music is added to the game.

Game Streaming Services News

Sonic Concert, Cartoons, and Other Merchandises

Sonic 30th Anniversary Virtual Symphony

The virtual concert will be held on June 23rd, 2021, free of charge. It will be full of “fan-favorite tracks” and includes special performances from the Crush40 band, DJ Tomoya Ohtani (Sonic series sound director), among others. There’ll be an exclusive sneak peek of the concert at the Summer Game Fest 2021, so be sure to set a reminder for it as well.

Cartoons Updates

  • Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisp: This brand new, two-part animation series will feature full dialogs from fan-favorite Sonic voice casts, including Roger Craig Smith, who actually was the one who broke the news in the stream. It will be the first title out of several other Sonic short-form animations SEGA plans to release in the near future. The first episode of Rise of the Wisp launches sometime in summer this year.
  • Sonic Prime: Man of Action’s Joe Kelly officially announced that the 24 episodes show would follow Sonic’s adventure in a strange and mysterious place called Shadowverse. It’s set to premiere worldwide on Netflix next year. More details will be revealed at a later date, including a hint about redesigned/new iteration of Blue Blur’s lifelong enemy, Eggman.

Besides updates on games and cartoons, Sonic Central showed that a variety of Sonic toys and limited merchandises are coming this 2021:

  • Full-color hardcover series retrospective Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-Speed-ia from Dark Horse.
  • Giant Eggman Robot Play Set from Jakks Pacific.
  • Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Shadow jewelry from King Ice.
  • Silver and gold commemorative coins from APMEX.
  • And more.
