IGN and SEGA have provided more coverage for the upcoming open-world adventure, Sonic Frontiers, giving a first look at the combat at combat-focused gameplay. A few days ago, we got a glimpse at the regular, movement-based gameplay via IGN First, and it has been confirmed that more coverage will continue throughout June.

Sonic Frontiers Combat and Gameplay Details

The new Sonic Frontiers gameplay video gave up a first look at the combat of the upcoming SEGA title, the first blue Blur’s first dive into the open-world experience. Sonic displays several powerful new moves in the Sonic Frontiers video, including what appears to be a new version of the iconic homing attack activated by circling enemies, iconic to the combat of the series. The footage showed some of those enemies, with some requiring a less straightforward approach to defeat.

The end of the video shows Sonic taking on one of the huge metallic defensive towers seen in many of the previous trailers, which attacks with several large-scale swings that Sonic has to avoid before climbing the beast to take down the control points of each arm. This showed that the combat might be rather complex and the enemies powerful, but not much else was revealed.

The official description for Sonic Frontiers reads:

This is the second of the IGN First presentations for Sonic Frontiers, which will continue throughout June. The first one focused on regular gameplay, while this one showed off Sonic Frontiers’ combat, but there are also interviews with the developers and more details coming.

Sonic Frontiers will release for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC sometime during the holidays of 2022.
