One of the Guardian minibosses that Sonic will encounter while exploring the Chaos Island in Sonic Frontiers is the Fortress, a massive flying machine capable of unleashing a barrage of bombs from the sky. Due to its enormous size, the Fortress might be quite intimidating to some players. However, the miniboss battle is relatively easy, as the Guardian can be defeated within a single rotation. For clarification, elite enemies like the Tank will typically require players to get through two “vulnerable states” of the miniboss to complete the fight. However, the battle with the Fortress only requires one.

Fortress Guardian Miniboss Battle in Sonic Frontiers

The miniboss battle with the Fortress in Sonic Frontiers begins with the Guardian flying overhead, dropping bombs on Sonic’s position. Large red AoE rings will appear before the falling projectiles impact the ground, providing players with indicators of where not to stand. The Guardian cannot be engaged during this time, as fans only have the option of avoiding the bombardment.

How to Defeat the Sumo Guardians in Sonic Frontiers

The Fortress’s bombardment serves as the first phase of the fight, after which the Guardian will flee but leave behind a set of rails for Sonic to ride on and pursue the enemy in Sonic Frontiers. To prevent the Guardian from getting away, players will need to use their Boost ability to catch up with the flying machine while riding the rails. Because there is no way to activate an infinite Power Boost while grinding the railing, players’ Boost meter will slowly deplete, causing the Fortress to increase the gap between it and Sonic. To keep Sonic’s Boost replenished, players must ride on the blue-lit rails as opposed to the standard black railing the Guardian leaves behind.

Eventually, the Fortress miniboss in Sonic Frontiers will begin releasing electric orbs along its railing that will damage Sonic if he comes into contact with them. Accordingly, players will need to continuously jump between rails, avoiding the orbs while also using the blue energy to restore their Boost. After Sonic reaches the Fortress, a platform will emerge that players can stand on and unleash their attacks on the Guardian. Fans must use their strongest Skills and trigger Phantom Rush to deplete the enemy of its HP and defeat it in Sonic Frontiers.

Sonic Frontiers is available for PC, PlayStation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
