SEGA and IGN have once again provided new details on the upcoming platforming adventure game, Sonic Frontiers, revealed during the official June 7, 2022, Sonic Central presentation. Along with some new footage and a more detailed gameplay trailer, the Sonic Central presentation revealed that an official Sonic Frontiers Prologue focused on Knuckles will be released at some point before the full game’s release, giving context to the sort and characters.

Sonic Central Presentation and Sonic Frontiers Prologue Details

The official Sonic Central presentation for June 2022 revealed some brand new details about Sonic Frontiers today, including new gameplay footage and confirmation that an official prologue will be coming out sometime before release. The new footage showed off some new enemies, and bosses Sonic will face in his adventure, outside of the ones we have seen already. However, no new environments were shown apart from the grass field we’ve seen so far in the IGN First showcases, but as we continue through the month of June, we will likely get more information.  SEGA has promised that more Sonic Frontiers content will be shown throughout June, including interviews with key developers at the Sonic Team, who will offer insight into the development of the game.

In addition to this, the Sonic Central also provided a sneak peek at the official animated Sonic Frontiers prologue, which focuses on Knuckles the Echidna. It showed him standing in front of the Master Emeralds during a thunderstorm, but not much else, and no release date for the short or Sonic Frontiers itself has been provided.

The official plot summary for Sonic Frontiers released by IGN reads:

“After flying into a wormhole with Tails and Amy, Sonic finds himself separated from his friends and all alone on an isolated island, with nothing but an AI voice guiding him to collect the Chaos Emeralds.”

Sonic Frontiers is set to release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Microsoft Windows sometime in Holiday 2022.
