Sonic the Hedgehog’s latest adventure is proving to be one of its most successful as well, as SEGA has officially confirmed that Sonic Frontiers has now sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide. This news comes only s month out from the game’s release date of November 8, 2022, making it one of the most successful launches in the series to date.

Sonic Frontiers Sets New Record for Series with 2.5 Million Copies Sold in One Month
Sonic Frontiers officially launched for PC and major consoles on November 8, 2022. Since then, it has been meet with widespread critical acclaim by fans and critics alike got its story, characters, gameplay, and “open-zone” areas that allowed players to freely explore the Starfall Islands.
Now, that success has seemed to pay off, as the game has sold over 2.5 million copies in just a little over a month. Recent reports show that the lifetime sales for the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise as a whole surpassed 1.5 billion earlier this year. To put this into perspective, that means Sonic Frontiers made the equivalent of a little over 16% of the entire series’ lifetime sales in just over a month.
Sega acknowledged the milestone, and the company has confirmed that the game will continue to receive support in the near future. It recently announced free DLC that will be distributed all throughout 2023.
It will include new skins for Sonic, new gear to collect, new challenges to face in the Starfall Islands, and even all new story content, which Sega confirms will allow players to take on the role of other characters besides Sonic. These include Tails, Knuckles, and Amy.
The first DLC released for Sonic Frontiers was a collaboration with Monster Hunter Rise that provided Sonic with themed gear and a new item.
Sonic Frontiers is currently available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
