SEGA has officially announced a Sonic Frontiers will be receiving free Monster Hunter-themed DLC as part of a series collaboration. The DLC will be available to players for free on November 14 at 5pom EST, about a week after the game officially launches on November 8.

What’s In The Sonic Frontiers/Monster Hunter DLC?

The Sonic Frontiers-Monster Hunter DLC will feature a collaboration between the two series for players of the game about six following the game’s launch. This is not the first time the two series have collaborated, as Monster Hunter Rise also received its own Sonic-themed DLC earlier this year, which allowed to both wear Sonic-themed gear and give armor to their Palamute that made it resemble the titular Blue Blur!

Similarly, the Sonic Frontiers-Monster Hunter collaboration will give Sonic access to two new costumes based around the Rathalos Armor,  modeled after one of the franchise’s most iconic monsters. The other armor set is known as the Felyne Rathalos Armor.

The free update will also include an item called the BBQ Spit, which will give players access to a grilling minigame. Sonic Frontiers already has a fishing minigame featuring Big the Cat, so with this players have be able to do even more activities in their spare time.

The BBQ Spit in the Monster Hunter series allows players to cook raw meat into Well-Done Steaks, which can boost their stamina in battle. Similarly, Sonic will receive a specific power-up depending on how well the player performs in the minigame that will being help him throughout his adventure. However, the specific details of the boost and what it could do have not been revealed at this time.

This is the first official partnership SEGA has announced for Sonic Frontiers, though it players can likely expect more DLC in the near future.

The latest installment in the Monster Hunter franchise, Monster Hunter Rise, also has its own DLC available now that players can download on Nintendo Switch and PC, with updates expected to come regularly.

Sonic Frontiers is will launch officially for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam on November 8, 2022.  Players who pre-order the game will be able to receive special treasure boxes with unique items and gear, and those who subscribe to the newsletter can download Sonic’s iconic soap shoes from Sonic Adventure after the game launches (until January 31, 2023).
