Today, Paramount Pictures has released the teaser for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie and announced April 8, 2022, as its release date. The Sonic the Hedgehog 2 video also seems to tease that Tails, who was only seen briefly in the mid-credits scene in the previous film, will have a much more significant role this time around, which shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, honestly. Since the two-tailed fox has tagged along with the blue blur on many adventures since 1992.

Paramount Pictures and SEGA have confirmed that they were working on Sonic the Hedgehog 2 back in May last year. The sequel to the most successful video game movie ever will once again have Jeff Fowler as the director, with Pat Casey and Josh Miller writing the script. Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara are producing the movie. While Tim Miller, Hajime Satomi, and Haruki Satomi return as executive producers. The full cast has yet to be announced, but Jim Carrey and Tika Sumpter have said that they are reprising their role as Robotnik and Maddie, respectively. Casey also revealed that Carrey was interested in wearing a fat suit to look closer to his video game counterpart.

Talking about Tails and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie, Fowler actually was planning to add in Super Sonic in early drafts of the first movie’s script. However, he didn’t think it would’ve made sense and tried to keep things simple by focusing on building up Sonic and Robotnik’s rivalry instead. Adding it in the sequel probably makes more sense; after all, Super Sonic also debuted in the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 game. Meanwhile, Casey also hinted that the addition of Chaos Emeralds could explore a potential connection between Knuckles and the echidna tribe, who were seen in the opening sequence of the first film.
