The sequel to 2020’s surprise hit film, Sonic the Hedgehog, has finally received a trailer: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will be released in theaters in April 2022. Check out the trailer below.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is introducing two fan favorites to the budding film franchise, Tails, and Knuckles. Earlier this week, fans of the franchise were excited to hear that Tails is being voiced by none other than Tails video-game voice actress, Colleen O’Shaughnessey. An unexpected announcement considering Hollywood movies typically do away with the original voice actors when adapting movies from other mediums. This was most recently ridiculed when it was announced that Chris Pratt will be voicing Mario in the upcoming Super Mario movie. Fans were upset that longtime Mario voice actor Charles Martinet was relegated to a supporting role in the movie. All of the main characters in the movie are to be voiced by A-list celebrities.

Although, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 isn’t immune from the A-list voice actor treatment. The new trailer gives fans a first look at Knuckles as he is introduced to the movie franchise for the first time. Knuckles will be voiced by Idris Elba who, from the short scene we see in the trailer, looks to be an excellent fit for the character. Sonic fans have been generally positive about the actor’s appointment since it was announced that he would be voicing the character. Unlike Tails, who has been voiced by Colleen O’Shaughnessey since 2014, the video-game voice actor for Knuckles has changed around much more frequently in recent years. Leaving fans with no particular attachment to any one voice actor for the character.

The first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is sure to excite fans more than the original trailer for the first movie so it’s already ahead of the curve.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will be in theaters on April 8, 2022.
