Sonic the Hedghog 3 Release Date, Story Details, and More

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is expected to hit theaters on December 20, 2024, nearly 3 years after the second film’s release on April 8, 2022. The film was originally teased back in February following an announcement from SEGA, which also alluded to the production of a live-action series based on Knuckles. Idris Elba will once again voice the character.

The official announcement from SEGA Corporation CEO Haruki Satomi reads as follows:

The first Sonic the Hedgehog movie was released in 2020, right before the height of the pandemic, and followed police officer Tom Wakowsky (James Marsden) helping the titular blue hedgehog (voiced by Ben Schwartz) find his lost rings and face off against the evil Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). Jeff Fowler directed, and the script was provided by Pat Casey and Josh Miller grossing over $319.7M worldwide.

The sequel, also directed by Fowler, was expected to double the original’s revenue and ultimately grossed over $400 million worldwide at the box office. No official plot details for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 have been fully revealed yet.
