While this reveal doesn’t fully show us Sonic, this motion poster does give us a general idea of what the hedgehog will look like in the film. This includes giving him fur. IGN spoke to Sonic the Hedgehog director Tim Miller (Deadpool) about this creative decision:

Neal Moritz (Fast and Furious franchise) continued to reveal changes made to the character, telling IGN about modernizing the iconic character’s shoes:

“It would be weird and it would feel like he was running around nude if he was some sort of otter-like thing. It was always, for us, fur, and we never considered anything different. It’s part of what integrates him into the real world and makes him a real creature.”

All of this makes sense and can possibly be compared to how director Rob Letterman has handled Pokemon: Detective Pikachu, which is set to release a few months before the Sonic film. Only time will tell if Sonic can garner the same amount of anticipation as the lovable Pokemon.

Sonic the Hedgehog will star Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey. Schwartz will be playing the titular hedgehog and Carrey will play the villainous Dr. Ivo Robotnik.

The film will hit theaters on November 8th, 2019.
