Ever wanted to stuff Sonic? Here’s your chance.
Paramount Pictures and Sega have announced official merchandise for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie, including new clothing for adults and children, toys, books, and even a Build-A-Bear.
Well, maybe. Though the official announcement doesn’t specify if there will be a Sonic stuffed animal, it did reveal that Build-A-Bear will at least have special plush items and accessories that tie in with the Sonic movie. Build-A-Bear did release special Sonic and Tails stuffed animals for the speedy hedgehog’s 25th anniversary a few years ago, so getting the blue dude in all his glory is not out of the question. Here’s what the previous attempt looked like:
Build-A-Bear stores currently carry accessories that allow customers to make stuffed animals that look like Elsa and Anna from the Disney movie Frozen, and Sonic actually wouldn’t even be the craziest stuffed character in the toy emporium—the store offers stuffed animals dressed up as Deadpool, who’s not exactly known for his kid-friendliness factor.
Other merchandise includes children’s books from Penguin Publishing based on the movie, and Diamond Select Toys will be releasing a new detailed, premium statue inspired by the film. Selected theaters will also have special beverage lids and popcorn buckets that are based on the motion picture. JACKS Pacific will be also releasing new play sets and stuffed toys inspired from the film.
The live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie was initially announced for a Nov. 8, 2019 release date, but got pushed back after the first trailer broke the internet with how bad, and oddly human (the teeth!), the digital rendition of Sonic looked. The new redesign, revealed in November, was met with more positive reception, and the movie is now slated to release from Paramount Pictures on Feb. 14, 2020.
