It was revealed through a sneak peek at San Diego Comic-Con that the Cartoon Network show OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes will be doing a crossover episode featuring Sonic the Hedgehog.

It’s not at all unusual for OK K.O.! to crossover with other shows or media properties, as they have done so multiple times in the past. The show has crossed over with multiple other Cartoon Network shows, the 80’s environmentalist superhero show Captain Planet, and even went so far as to tie the canon of the show together with the classic Scooby-Doo film Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School, so a crossover with the Sonic series isn’t really all that wild. It’s still a cool bit of news, seeing two beloved franchises crossover, especially with this being the first time that OK K.O.! has done a crossover with a video game, not including in-show cross-promotion for its own licensed game OK K.O.! Let’s Play Heroes!.

The sneak peek clip shows off the show’s main character KO striking multiple classic Sonic the Hedgehog poses and passing the time cleaning up at Lakewood Plaza Turbo’s bodega while his friends and co-worker and busy snoozing, when all of a sudden who should dash in but Sonic and Tails, accompanied by classic tracks from the Sonic Adventure series. The clip ends with a reprisal of the classic Sonic the Hedgehog 2 logo with KO included, while a snatch of music from the ’90s The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon plays over the top of it. Based on the clip it’s unclear whether or not these versions of Sonic and Tails will speak, or rather be an homage to the Genesis-era of the characters where they were silent, but only time will tell.

No release date for the crossover episode has been given as of yet, but Cartoon Network is very likely to update this information closer to the said release date.
