GTA V fans got more than they bargained for if they were paying attention to the internet over the past few days. A glitch in the pre-loading system on the PlayStation Store gave people access to “certain GTA V assets”, ahead of the game’s mid-September release.
The digital files were released online, and did include some spoilers for the highly anticipated open-world title. Sony has since apologized for leak: “Regrettably, some people who downloaded the digital pre-order of Grand Theft Auto V through the PlayStation Store in Europe were able to access certain GTA V assets. These assets were posted online. We have since removed the digital pre-order file from the PlayStation Store in Europe. We sincerely apologize to Rockstar and GTA fans across the world who were exposed to the spoiler content.”
Did you miss the GTA V Spoliers? True blue fans did a lot of data mining of the pre-load content, and discovered the game’s full music playlist, some of the in-game TV advertisements, and a theme for the PlayStation XMB.
However, it doesn’t appear that hackers are actually able to get the game to run in full. The information that has been discovered has been from scooping bits and pieces from the pre-load files. Grand Theft Auto V is due to release on September 17th for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
