Twitter user Snorlax Ownz tweeted the survey from PlayStation during the event. IGN has confirmed the survey at EVO, indicating that PlayStation is measuring user interest in NFTs there. Sony asked, “Which of the following NFT/Digital Collectibles would you most be interested in purchasing?”. The list is as follows:

Last month Sony introduced a new PlayStation Stars loyalty program that enabled users to acquire digital treasures like figurines of its iconic characters. However, Sony stated that since they don’t use blockchain technology, these digital items in the program aren’t NFTs. According to the Sony blog, players can receive prizes by participating in “a range of campaigns and events,” such as tournaments and trophy-based challenges.

Also, Daniel Ahmad, an analyst at Niko Partners, points out that this EVO survey has nothing to do with the PlayStation Stars program. However, he said the term “digital collection” is often used synonymously with NFT.

NFTs have seen mixed reactions in the gaming industry. While Xbox’s Phil Spencer claims that NFTs in their current form are more exploitative than innovative, Valve banned NFTs from Steam. Nevertheless, some publishers, including Square Enix, have begun to accept them.
