The future of Sony is looking bright. The PlayStation 5 is now available and, for the most part, people love it. 2021 will give eager players Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Horizon Forbidden West, and the highly anticipated follow-up to 2018’s God of War. That’s just to name a few. But Sony looks to be branching out heavily with the PlayStation brand in movies and TV.

During an interview with CNBC (courtesy of Media Post), the chairman and chief executive officer of Sony Pictures Tony Vinciquerra said something either very exciting or very troublesome depending on your point of view. Vinciquerra spoke of developing 3 movies and 7 TV shows based on PlayStation games.

What Could These 10 Sony Properties Be?

We know of a couple of PlayStation adaptations that are currently in development. The long-gestating Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland finished filming this past October. There is also a TV series based on The Last of Us in the works with HBO. Neil Druckmann, writer and co-director of the post-apocalyptic survival horror game, is writing the series alongside Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin.

However, Vinciquerra did not clarify in the interview whether or not these adaptations are included in the 10 future projects. He could have been talking about as-of-yet unadapted games from PlayStation’s massive line-up. Sony Pictures has a lot to choose from. Additionally, Holland’s Uncharted movie won’t be the first Sony property to make it to the big screen. In 2016, Ratchet & Clank was released. And although it was commercially and critically unsuccessful, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the studio return to that property in the future.

Another interesting point Vinciquerra brought up in the interview was the recent Warner Bros./HBO Max deal. Several filmmakers have spoken out against the announcement. And according to Vinciquerra, the studio has been in discussions with many high-profile directors because of it.
