PlayStation has always had a very interesting model of online service. For a yearly or monthly fee, Sony allows users to access certain free games every month alongside online play. Just before the launch of the PS5, Sony announced the PS Plus collection. The PS Plus Collection was introduced as an alternative to the offerings of Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass. Offering many great PlayStation exclusives and titles for PS5, owners all for free. After the announcement of the impending tiers coming to PS Plus, Sony is changing its payment model as well. While announcing this change in tiers would come at a cost to some users, Sony is letting subscribers with both PS Now and PS Plus upgrade to the most premium tier. Yet, just a few months before the launch of the service, Sony disabled the PlayStation Plus subscription stacking ability that allowed users to add more time to an existing membership.

What Does This Mean For Current Sony PlayStation Plus Subscribers?

While this integration is a ways away, it seems to have already caused unintended effects. The new tiers are set to launch on June 13th in America. Some markets like broader Asia are targeting even late May dates. PlayStation Plus and PS Now subscribers have always enjoyed the ability to extend their subscription. Using prepaid cards even while their current subscription was active, this choice was excellent. For whatever cause or reason, Sony has temporarily disabled that feature. Thankfully, Sony has confirmed this is a temporary issue, but there is no word on when it will return. Users looking to cash in on prepaid cards in order to upgrade their subscriptions will have to wait and see if the feature returns.
