Sony’s PlayStation 5 passed $20 million units sold last month, and back then, Sony’s plans of ramping up production in the following 6 months are finally coming to fruition. Sony said that it is “working to bring forward more supply into the year-end holiday selling season” for the PS5.

The company explained in its recent earning results how software sales and gameplay engagement have dropped compared to last year. But that should not come as a surprise, as last year, due to lockdowns, most people were stuck at home.

Sony added that taking this situation into account:

“Taking this situation into account we intend to take action to increase user engagement in the second half of the fiscal year, during which major titles including first-party software are scheduled to be released, primarily by increasing the supply of hardware and promoting the new PlayStation Plus service.”

Sony’s Plans for Increasing Engagement

This is good news for players, as the company plans to enhance all current and upcoming gaming quality to increase gamers’ interest. Sony will do this by releasing some of its most popular games this year, which include hard hitters like God of War: Ragnarok and The Last of Us Part I Remake.

The company also plans on increasing the quality of services provided via PlayStation Plus, which means more games will be added to the steadily growing catalog. Hopefully, Sony will make more retro games playable on the PS5, which includes PS1, PS2, and PS3 titles. The latter of which can only be streamed at this point.

Since lockdowns in Shanghai have ended recently, Sony expects to meet its forecasted supply of 18 million units of the PS5 sold by the end of the year. Because of this, the company is certain that supplies will increase by the time holidays roll around.

Sony is constantly trying to keep up with the hardware requirements of the industry, and most people are still unable to obtain the PS5. CFO of Sony, Hiroki Totoki, said, “We want to produce more units as soon as possible.”

In other news, Sony has added 1440p support, as well as the ability to make Gamelists in its latest PlayStation 5 beta software update.
