In a recent interview with Fandango, producer Amy Pascal gave a rather vague preview of what fans can expect with Sony’s highly-anticipated sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. She gave an update on when fans can expect to see details from the sequel along with how all of Sony’s Spider-Man universes could potentially connect in the future.

When asked about the upcoming sequel Pascal said, “it’s going to be fantastic.” Pascal also hinted that Sony will “have something to show on that very soon.” Sony seems to be focused more on promoting Spider-Man: No Way Home, the third Spider-Man MCU film which releases on December 17.

As seen in the No Way Home trailer, the multiverse is opening up and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will now be interacting with various villains from both Tobey Maguire’s and Andrew Garfield’s universes. The Venom: Let There Be Carnage post-credit scene also showed the connection between the MCU and Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, which will soon include Morbius. While Pascal says that the live-action universes will connect, she says that the animated universe will be kept separate, however, she isn’t keeping a future connection off the table.

“Well, there’s the Marvel Universe, which is one container and then there’s the Spider-Verse movies, which are different and then there’s the other universe where the Sony characters are in,” Pascal told Fandango. “We all are very respectful of each other and work together and make sure that we’re only being additive.”

The first Spider-Verse film was a massive hit with critics and audiences who praised it for its unique animation style, charming characters, and captivating story. Phil Lord and Chris Miller are returning to produce this sequel along with writing the screenplay alongside David Callahan. There will be a trio of directors which includes Joaquim Dos Santos, Justin K. Thompson, and Kemp Powers. It is expected to swing into theaters on Oct. 7, 2022.
