The latest firmware update to hit the PlayStation 3 has yet again removed functionality from the console. This time, PSP owners get the short end of the stick, with the new firmware disabling connectivity that the handheld previously had with the PS3.
As Shack News reports, prior to the latest firmware update, PS3 owners could connect a PSP to a PS3 system and transfer game data between platforms. Copying games to both devices would allow for a playability on both consoles, but with the new update this is no longer the case. It appears that the “Copy” feature has been removed altogether, though it is still possible to install games to the device as long as they are not installed to the PS3.
Many PSP owners have used the console as an alternate storage device, saving them from having to re-download items that the PSP doesn’t have space for.
