Over the past few days, quite a good number of things have been happening to Remedy. The studio has obtained publishing rights for Alan Wake and is open to the idea of bringing the original game onto other platforms outside of Xbox and Windows, on top of chances of a next-gen sequel.
Now, with the team working on Control and the story mode for CrossFire X in partnership with Korean outlet Smilegate, there are rumors around possibilities of an acquisition by Sony, which would be interested in bringing Remedy in the portfolio of its first party studios.
The rumor has been spread by PushSquare, which claims that “we’ve also heard from several sources that Sony is lining up a bid, although the company’s recent reacquisition of the Alan Wake brand casts some doubt on that speculation.”
As said by PushSquare itself, it doesn’t look likely for such thing to happen, since the Quantum Break developer has just left a second party relationship with Microsoft just for the sake of being independent and is doing its first projects to get a taste of that freedom.
We do know that Worldwide Studios’ Shuhei Yoshida has recently visited the Finnish studio and that sure enough does add more fuel to similar speculations, but that could’ve happened to check the status of Control‘s PS4 exclusive content planned with publisher 505 Games.
Anyway, there’s this rumor around, and with Sony trying to acquire first party talent we’ll better bear it in mind for the future.
