The PlayStation 4 has sold 73.6 million consoles to date, and 5.9 million were moved during this past holiday season alone, Sony announced.
Sony also announced that 55.9 million PS4 games were sold during the holiday season in retail stores worldwide and through digital downloads on the PlayStation Store. In total, 645 million copies of PS4 games have been sold to date.
This new total is up from 60.4 million that Sony reported last June. In comparison, the PlayStation 3 sold at least 83.8 million consoles by the time the number reports stopped coming in for Sony’s last console.

We promise our unwavering commitment to bring more amazing experiences to our fans, including exclusive games and innovative network services, as PS4 continues to flourish as the best place to play.”
This upcoming year promises to be even bigger for the PS4, with exclusive games like God of War, Spider-Man, Detroit: Become Human, and possibly even The Last of Us: Part II due to release some time in 2018. That’s not even taking into account games like Red Dead Redemption II and Far Cry 5, which both promise to be exciting games on the console.
Fans will be curious to see where the PS4 ends on the all-time list of console sales when all is bought and sold. That title is believed to be held by the PlayStation 2, which sold at least 155 million units in its lifespan.
