This debate has devolved into platforms arguing why Call of Duty is or is not a significant thing to consider. Of course, Sony rightly believes that it is important that it does not become exclusive to any single platform and has thrown some shade toward poor old Battlefield.
Sony Says Battlefield Does Not Compete With Call Of Duty
In a filing to the UK Competition and Markets Authority, Sony said that Call of Duty is one of a kind and said that its closest rival, Battlefield, does not even come close to touching it, ouch!
The filing reads that despite similarities between Call of Duty and Battlefield, and the respectable track record of EA, with amazing franchises like FIFA, Mass Effect, Need For Speed, Star Wars, etc. Battlefield is still unable to keep up with Call of Duty.
Sony’s sentiments do hold some truth since Battlefield can’t pull numbers like Call of Duty and is not even close to being as successful as Call of Duty. With the recent botched launch of Battlefield 2042 fresh in our memories, the arguments do make sense. But on the flip side, Battlefield 2042 was the fifth best-selling game in the US in 2021, so it isn’t exactly a slouch, either. But still, Sony aims to ensure that Call of Duty remains available to everyone regardless of which platform they support.
