Sony is planning to make PlayStation gaming apps for mobile devices as it announced the formation of a new company called “ForwardWorks Corporation (ForwardWorks)”.
Sony posted details of this new venture over on its official website. The aim of the new company is to “deploy new services toward the ever-expanding smart device market“. The company will begin its operations on April 1st, 2016.
The interesting part about the announcement is that Forwardworks has access to “numerous PlayStation dedicated software titles and its gaming characters“. One thing that the announcement notes is that they will be creating gaming apps for users in “Japan and Asia“.
Hopefully this doesn’t mean that the apps are only available in those territories, but the announcement did come from Sony Computer Entertainment Japan. Maybe some of the gaming apps could be released worldwide.
It’s interesting that Sony is now going to enter the big smartphone market. Nintendo already released Miitomo and will roll out lots of other games in the near future.
Sony has access to tons of characters and franchises so it should be exciting to see the types of gaming apps that are made. Which characters and games would you like to see?
