After all of the years of waiting and anticipation about this game, Smash Bros. Ultimate is finally getting its last character. And who could that possibly be? Well, I guess the title spoils that little surprise, but Sora from the Kingdom Hearts series of games is joining the roster as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s 85th and final character, marking the completion of the Ultimate dev cycle. Waluigi stans everywhere are sad, I know.

Announced in a special Nintendo Direct live stream hosted by the iconic Masahiro Sakurai, we discovered Sora’s inclusion in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, as well as his moveset and the news that he will come with alternate costumes that represent his appearance over the many, many Kingdom Hearts games that have been released in the past. He’ll come armed with his keyblade synonymous with the Kingdom Hearts franchise, which he can wield in conjunction with magic spells to mix up his options when in the fighting arena. They showed off some gameplay of Sora in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, including the special stage of Hollow Bastion, but not the final smash, saying “I’ll leave that for the fans to experience.”

We also got a quick look at some of the costumes coming to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Mii Fighters, including the Doom Slayer costume for the Mii Gunner. The Doom Slayer was one of the potential candidates that were flying around for a spot on the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster before Sora made his way in, so it’s good to see him have some form of recognition in one of gaming’s interactive halls of fame.
