MGM Picture has finally released an official trailer and poster for its ambitious project “Respect”, an Aretha Franklin Biopic. The role of Soul Queen Aretha Franklin is being played by Academy Award Winner Jennifer Hudson. That’s to say, the trailer itself feels like a superhit movie, encapsulating the mesmerizing journey of the legend since her childhood and the essence of her divine voice & vibes.
Aretha Louise Franklin, also known as Queen of Soul, was an American Singer-Songwriter who gave a new and more graceful form to the art of soul singing. She started her professional music career at the age of 18 as a recording artist with Columbia Records. In that, she got her career jump in 1967 with an Otis Reddings song “Respect” which she adopted in her own style, became a hit.

In her biopic, Jennifer Hudson has been cast in the lead role of Aretha Franklin. Other supporting casts include Marlon Wayans, Marlon Wayans, Tituss Burgess, and Kimberly Scott in different roles. The trailer showcases her entire life story, her struggles, and disappointments, moments of achievement, pride, and her music intertwined with her every experience. It is interesting to know that with “Respect” director Liesl Tommy is debuting her feature film career. She is also the first black woman to get a nomination for the prestigious Tony Awards for directing a play called “Eclipsed.”
