It may have taken years to get here, but we’re officially getting a new Space Channel 5 game. True, it’s Japan-only right now, and it’s a virtual reality title, but it’s still technically a Space Channel 5 game.

We already knew Space Channel 5 VR: Arakata Dancing Show was coming to the Tokaigi 2018 show this weekend, but now we know it’s been confirmed as a full release for the HTC Vive.

The demo itself at the trade show will be running on an HTC Vive as well, so if you head there and give the game a try, you’ll get an accurate picture of how the final product will play. But now we also have a better idea of what kind of mechanics are in the game, too.

For instance, you won’t be playing as Ulala (a bummer) but you’ll take up the role of a rookie reporter for Space Channel 5. You’ll match Ulala’s poses and work your way up to dancing against the alien menace known as the Morolians.

G-rounding Inc. is going to be taking the game on tour across stores dedicated only to virtual reality titles in Japan before releasing the full title as a downloadable game for HTC Vive. This is expected to happen within the fiscal year, but there hasn’t been an official price assigned just yet.

This is exactly the kind of thing that needs to happen with classic franchises, so it’s great to see Ulala making a comeback.
