Fans of NBA have long been looking for something to add to their Space Jam nostalgia and since Space Jam: A New Legacy has been announced, many have been waiting in great anticipation. But, on Tuesday, Kevin Martel – one of the Warner Bros. animators working on the upcoming movie – tweeted about what seemed to be a wrap of production. Yes, finally!
Indicating that production for Space Jam: A New Legacy has been completed, Martel tweeted:

What looked like a wrapped present given, possibly, to Martel, might suggest that the production is complete and we’ll soon race towards a release date.
A sequel to the 1996 Michael Jordan movie, which has Bugs Bunny alongside, Space Jam: A New Legacy will see LeBron James team up with an animated basketball team made up of those evergreen Looney Tunes characters.
Apart from James taking over Jordan’s iconic role in the flick, the movie will see Avengers: Endgame & Iron Man 2 actor Don Cheadle portray the main villain. In addition, the movie stars Sonequa Martin-Green and Dom James and is said to include a host of other NBA and WNBA players. Rumors have suggested Damian Lillard, Chris Paul, Diana Taurasi, Klay Thompson, and Anthony Davis could all be included in this elite Warner Bros. offering.
Where Space Jam was a box office success, grossing over $250 million worldwide, the sequel eyes today’s pop culture success and has been working to align their approach in a way that it appeals to the masses just like the original itself.
While a lot of basketball and LeBron fans are eager to find more about the 2021 offering, it will be interesting to see whether the movie lives up to the expectations. Especially, after the original set the bar so high – becoming the top-grossing Basketball movie of all time.
