Writer Todd McFarlane revealed in an interview with CBR that the Spawn reboot film won’t rehash the same origin story. Instead, fans and viewers should already be familiar with the origin story. McFarlane then goes on to say,

McFarlane is referring to the 1997 film Spawn. The film was directed by Mark A.Z. Dippe and starred Michael Jai White as the antihero. However, with McFarlane directing the Spawn reboot movie and Brian Tucker writing the script, expectations are high.

Progress on the Spawn Reboot Movie

McFarlene has been planning a Spawn reboot movie for years now. The film, which is also his directorial debut, is in development with Blumhouse Productions and Jason Blum. At the same time as McFarlene promising that the film won’t be a rehash, he has also stated that he refuses to pen the movie’s script.

As of now, there is no release window for the Spawn reboot, though the film’s development seems to be moving at a smooth pace. Jamie Foxx and Jeremy Renner were both attached to the film a while ago, but it is unknown if both actors are still on board with the production.

McFarlene has also announced a soon-to-be-released television series about a pair of detectives that also appear in the Spawn comics. The series is currently being developed without a release window as well.
