One of the major differences and the deciding factor between PlayStation vs Xbox this gen have been the quality first-party singleplayer games. Sony managed to get things right in this department whereas Xbox has failed to achieve anything. It won’t be a hyperbole if I say that almost all Sony’s first-party studios are firing on all cylinders (this generation), here are few examples: Guerilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn, Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, From Software’s Bloodborne, Sucker Punch’s Infamous Second Son and Infamous: First Light, and many more. If we take into consideration the projects Sony’s first-party studios are currently working on then the list looks more amazing, here are few examples: Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man, Santa Monica’s God of War (PS4), Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima, Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us: Part II, and many more. Where exactly Xbox stands against this insanely amazing PlayStation first-party single-player games lineup?

Phil Spencer (Head of Xbox) in a recent Twitter conversation with Ryan McCaffrey (Executive Editor of Previews) answered an interesting query: when Xbox will receive a masterpiece-level exclusive like God of War?

Ryan McCaffrey explained to Phil Spencer that Xbox fans are dying to get their hands on a masterpiece-level exclusive like God of War. He went on to explain to Spencer that although Sony’s all first-party studios are delivering high-quality story-driven PlayStation exclusive games, it took them 10 years time to achieve such a feat and work to achieve this goal was started in PS3 era.

To this Spencer replied that Xbox Division is very much working on growing their IP, but things will take time. Xbox customers deserve a high-quality and diverse IP including singleplayer experience and that’s the main goal of Xbox Division.

“Our hardware took time, our service/platform/BC took time and continuing to grow our 1P will take time. A high quality and diverse 1P (yes, with SP) built the right way is our goal and what our customers deserve. We can have similar results to what we’ve seen in hw and platform.”

The only thing that I can say on this is – Phil Spencer, the entire gaming community is looking forward to seeing it.
