Another controversial video game decision, another influx of angry fans – it’s a villain the likes of which Spider-Man has never dealt with before.

But it isn’t Peter Parker who has to deal with this onslaught – it’s Brian Intihar, Creative Director at Insomniac Games. After the controversial reveal of Peter Parker’s new face model for the Marvel’s Spider-Man PS5 remaster, it turns out many a fan were none too happy about the change. And, as it further turns out, some fans took things a little bit too far in expressing their displeasure.

In a recent post on Twitter, Bryan Intihar wrote:

Given that this is the internet we’re talking about, it’s perhaps none too surprising about the threats from Spider-Man fans to Bryan Intihar. Other recent examples of this abusive behavior include fans of The Last of Us. Disappointed by the content from The Last of Us Part 2, enraged fans took to social media to threaten, of all people, the cast of the game. Most noteworthy is Abby’s voice actor, Laura Bailey who received death threats following backlash over her character.

Man. I try to only post positive stuff on here… but sometimes this just gets a little overwhelming. I blacked out some of the words cuz, ya know, spoilers.

Side note. Thank you to all the people sending me positive messages to balance it out. It means more than I can say.❤️ pic.twitter.com/kGyULWPpNu

Bailey posted support for Bryan Intihar in a subtweet:

FYI, @bryanintihar is one of the most kind, caring peeps I’ve ever had the honor of working with. Let’s remember to keep being greater. https://t.co/BiG9r0R5hz

Spider-Man fans have been divided over model Ben Jordan’s likeness being used for Peter’s face since the reveal on September 30. Replacing former face model John Bubniak was done to better match Peter Parker voice actor Yuri Lownethal’s motion capture.
