Spider-Man movies and TV shows have been gracing the public consciousness since Sam Raimi’s 2001 hit – but people aren’t tired of the web-head yet!
Nothing shows this more than the Box Office earnings of the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man: Far From Home. The movie has earned $374.6 domestically as well as $762.2 internationally, meaning it surpasses the James Bond flick Skyfall as Sony’s highest-grossing movie of all time.
Yet, as Forbes notes, this isn’t the only milestone it surpasses. Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the most successful Spider-Man movies, both critically and commercially, grossing over $373 million in 2004. Spider-Man: Far From Home has, too, surpassed the Tobey Maguire-starring superhero flick.
Even Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, another highly-lauded spider-movie, which earned $375.5 internationally, has been surpassed by Far From Home on a worldwide scale.
Meanwhile, reports are astir that Marvel may re-release Spider-Man: Far From Home with deleted scenes added to the mix. This is thought to be in response to the success of the Avengers: Endgame re-release, which helped the film surpass James Cameron’s Avatar in terms of Box Office success. Further speculation explores the possibility of the re-release adding the scenes from the Peter’s To-Do List short film due to be released on the DVD set.
If you’re looking for more web-slinger in your life after Spider-Man: Far From Home, then you’re in luck. In April 2017, it was announced that a third MCU Spidey film was in development. Kevin Feige hinted that they will portray “a Peter Parker story that has never been done before on film” while director Jon Watts and Tom Holland hinted that Kraven the Hunter will be featured.
Furthermore, the Spider-Verse will continue to show off more Spidey (albeit less Peter Parker). A sequel continuing Miles Morales’ story is being written while a film focusing on the Spider-Women is also in the works.
