(Mild-ish Spoilers for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse ahead)
If you enjoyed the comedic ‘Spidey Bells’ song sung by Chris Pine at the end of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, then you’re in luck. You can own the track, alongside four other original Spidey-themed Christmas songs, in a specially-released EP.
The EP, titled A Very Spidey Christmas, features the cast members of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse having heaps of seasonal fun, singing Spiderific versions of classic Christmas songs.
In the first track, ‘Joy to the World’, we hear Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales sing a catchy rendition of the classic song while complaining, “And literally I don’t get paid/Kinda weird that I don’t get paid/I make my own web-fluid and it’s not free, okay?” At the end of the song, however, he invites the listener to help him through GoFundMe.
The second track, Spidey Bells (A Hero’s Lament), is the one you hear in the Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse end credits. It has Chris Pine’s Peter Parker sing a cheery song about beating the bad guys. However, in the song’s bridge, Spider-Man starts to wonder why he’s even doing the song – after all, he has a degree in chemical engineering!
The third track has Jake Johnson’s older Peter Parker sing a humorous version of ‘Deck the Halls’. In between choruses, Parker asks a fictional audience whether he’s saved them or knows someone he’s saved. When there’s no response, Parker says that’s his point – they’ve all got to save each other this holiday season. Then he complains how it’s dead before launching into another chorus.
Chris Pine returns for the fourth track, ‘Up on the Housetop’ while Jorma Taccone speaks a spoken word parody of ‘The Night Before Christmas’ with his Spider-Man 1967 persona.
