Spider-Man: Miles Morales is one of the first games to receive variable refresh rate support on PlayStation 5 with its new 1.013 update. Miles Morales was one of the first PS5 games announced to be receiving support for Sony’s new VRR implementation on the next-gen console. Although it took a few days for the Miles Morales update to roll out players should be receiving it now, and we have the full 1.013 patch notes below.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales 1.013 Update Patch Notes

New Features

  • 120 Hz Display Mode (together with system settings)
  • Reduces input latency
  • Increases frame rate target of Fidelity graphics mode to 40 fps
  • Support for VRR via system settings
  • When 120 Hz Display Mode is off, slightly increases dynamic resolution targets
  • When 120 Hz Display Mode is on, unlocks frame rate to vary based on gameplay
  • Improvements to ray-traced reflection quality at glancing angles in low-dynamic-resolution scenarios
  • Improvements to TAA upsample quality

Insomniac also released a minor 1.013.1 update that correct an issue with the VRR languages in 1.013.

  • Reduces input latency

  • Increases frame rate target of Fidelity graphics mode to 40 fps

  • When 120 Hz Display Mode is off, slightly increases dynamic resolution targets

  • When 120 Hz Display Mode is on, unlocks frame rate to vary based on gameplay

  • Addressed issues around incorrect menu localizations for VRR-related options.

Unfortunately, VRR is only available to those with a PS5 and HDMI 2.1 compatible TV/monitor. Since HDMI 2.1 is so new, that’s a fairly small percentage of the PS5 owning community. However, Insomniac has also introduced support for all 120 Hz displays with the update. Meaning anyone with a high refresh rate monitor or TV will at least be able to enjoy that new display mode. The new 120 Hz mode should make the already smooth game even better for those who prefer high refresh rate gaming.

For all of the games that will be receiving VRR support on PS5, check out Sony’s blog post from earlier this week with the full list. More games should be added in the coming weeks and months as developers update their games with VRR options for smoother gaming.
