The first new game shown off on Thursday’s PS5 event didn’t disappoint. Spider-Man: Miles Morales is on the way and is coming sooner than most people dreamed.

Pegged as launching “Holiday 2020,” it’s entirely possible the sequel to the incredibly popular Spider-Man game could be a PS5 launch title.

Those who played through the first Spider-Man knows Miles Morales is a key character, though he never dons the iconic suit. At the same time, Peter Parker does take the young man under his wing after Miles’ father is killed.

A short teaser showed Morales indeed swinging through New York City in his version of a spider suit. Not much else was revealed about the sequel. While we got a few quick glimpses of villains Miles Morales will be taking on, one person who didn’t make an appearance was Parker himself.

It will be interesting to see if Peter makes a return, even as a short cameo, or whether this game will focus entirely on Miles’ journey as he takes over the crown.

The biggest surprise of the entire announcement had to be a release date before New Years. Most talk surrounding another Spider-Man expected an arrival no sooner than 2021. Some even believed 2022 was far more likely.
