Nintendo has given gamers a new look at Splatoon 3 and also provided a launch window for the game. During the latest Nintendo Direct, the company focused on the co-op mode in Splatoon 3, Salmon Run Next Wave. Salmon Run was introduced in Splatoon 2 and proved incredibly popular. The developers of Splatoon created Salmon Run to take advantage of the Nintendo Switch’s portability. Salmon Run Next Wave introduces new bosses to the mode. Boss Salmonid’s Fish Stick and Flipper-Flopper were introduced in the trailer. The trailer also showed off an as-yet-unnamed boss that looks inspired by Japanese kaiju monsters from movies like Godzilla. The bosses in the trailer look like they will add a fun new element to the popular co-op mode in Splatoon 3.
Nintendo also narrowed down the release date for the game in the new trailer. Although no exact release date was given, Nintendo announced that Splatoon 3 would be hitting Switch consoles this summer. Splatoon 2 was released on July 21, 2017, and the first game was released in May 2015, so Splatoon 3 is following the summer release schedule of its predecessors.
Splatoon is one of the most popular Nintendo franchises of the last few years. The games shot to fame on the back of the inventive and fun multiplayer modes. Splatoon 3 will add to the competitive multiplayer that the first two games made popular. Splatoon 3 will also feature a story-driven single-player mode. Although the first two games included single-player modes, the focus of the games was very much on the multiplayer aspect. Details on the single-player mode in Splatoon 3 are still light. Expect to hear much more about Splatoon 3 over the next few months as the release date draws closer.
