Ubisoft is letting loose the details regarding their revamped Spies vs. Mercs mode in Splinter Cell: Blacklist. The classic formula of third person spies vs. first person mercs returns from previous installments in the franchise.

The two main Spies vs. Mercs modes will feature both 2v2 and 4v4 modes. The 2v2 modes will play similarly to classic Splinter Cell multiplayer offerings in Pandora Tommorrow and Chaos Theory. The all new 4v4 mode will be the most players we’ve seen on a Splinter Cell game, where Splinter Cell: Double Agent featured 3v3.

Players will take control of either a Spy or a Mercenary in the classic mode. As a Spy, players will play in the third person perspective. Trying to remain undetected, hack objectives, and presumably escape with the data. Mercenaries will attempt to stop the Spys, by using a first person control scheme, guns, grenades, and other gadgetry to stop the spies in their tracks.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist is due on August 20th for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Wii U.
